The Lexus RX 450h Sports Luxury runs a hybrid drive system consisting of a 183kW 3.5-litre petrol V6 and a 123kW electric motor which, combined, provide a claimed peak petrol-electric power output of 220kW. The parallel hybrid system drives through an all-gear electronic CVT with six-step sequential-type shift.

At 2275kg, the RX 450h is the heaviest among the other competitors such as Audi Q7, BMW X5 or Porsche Cayenne. Various modes are available to the driver, from Eco and Normal through to optimistic Sport and Sport S choices. Purely electric propulsion can be utilized when sufficient battery charge is available.

The RX 450h is certainly not aimed at enthusiast drivers in the same way as the Porsche Cayenne. Quality, high levels of equipment, economy and value are prioritized ahead of ride and handling. Its quiet, high-quality cabin is a nice environment for lazy motoring and its ride comfort is cushy for occupants.
